Vietnam Tours: Ha Noi - Sapa - Dien Bien Phu
Day 1 HANOI - LAOCAI
Pick up at your hotel and depart for the railway station to catch the night train to Lao Cai (Departure: 21h15 on the local train. Note that Victoria train depart at 21h55).
Overnight on board.
Day 2 LAO CAI - SAPA (B/L) < minority market>
Arrive at Lao Cai station early in the morning. Day use room at the hotel for a shower and enjoy breakfast.
Then, an excursion is arranged to one of the charming minority markets in the region (depending on which day of the week it is).
After a local lunch, proceed to Sapa, home to over 30 colourful hill tribes (including Black H'mong, Flower H'mong, Red Dao) and to Vietnam’s highest peak - Mount Fansipan.
Overnight in Sapa.
Market days:
- Wednesday: Chin Xen (116 km from Lao Cai or 156 km from Sapa) or Cao Son (80 km from Lao Cai or 120 km from Sapa).
- Thursday: Lung Khau Nhi (61 km from Lao cai or 90 km from Sapa).
- Saturday: Can Cau Market. Located in a neighboring valley to Sapa. To reach the market, follow a spectacular road with beautiful sceneries. This market is the weekly meeting point of the Flower H/Mong, Fula, Black H’Mong and is one the most authentic markets in the region. After the market, visit some nearby villages before returning leisurely to Lao Cai.
- Sunday: Muong Khuong or Bac Ha Markets: the busiest market of the region where you will meet the H’Mongs, Fula, Dao and other ethnic minorities who come and exchange not only the goods but the gossips from their own community.
Note: Tuesdays’ Coc Ly Market is temporally inaccessible until further notice.
Day 3 SAPA and its surroundings
Breakfast at the hotel. Spend a full day discovering the minority villages located in the Sapa Valley. Drive to Lao Chai and then trek (2 km) through rice fields to a traditional Black H’Mong house and then continue the trek to Ta Van village (2 km) to visit a Giay minority village. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, walk through a bamboo forest until you reach Giangtachai, a Red Dzao village. This part of the trip is fascinating because of its beautiful sceneries and colourful ethnic minorities such as the Red Dao. Discover their unique customs and traditions. Your driver will be waiting for you at Giangtachai to drive you back to the hotel. Local lunch in Sapa. Overnight in Sapa.

Day 4 SAPA - PHONG THO (
After breakfast, depart to Phong Tho (100 km). On the way, stop to visit the Thac Bac Waterfalls and enjoy the panoramic view of Fansipan from Tram Ton Pass, the highest pass in Vietnam. Then visit the local market of Binh Lu and minority villages along the road (Lantens, Lu, etc…) Lunch en route.Overnight in Phong Tho.
Day 5 PHONG THO - LAI CHAU - DIEN BIEN PHU (B/L)
After breakfast. drive to Dien Bien Phu (180 km) along the Nam Na Valley. On the way, visit the Red H’mong hamlets.Lunch en route.Overnight in Dien Bien Phu.
Day 6 DIEN BIEN PHU (B/L)
After breakfast, drive to Muong Phang. Visit the headquarters of General Vo Nguyen Giap.Drive back to Pa Khoang for a boat trip on Pa Khuong Lake and visit the minority villages (Black Thai).Disembark & drive back to your hotel for lunch.In the afternoon, visit Dien Bien Phu Museum (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays), A1 Hill, Dien Bien Phu Cemetery, the bunker headquarters of French Commander Colonel Christian de Castries and the Memorial dedicated to the French soldiers. Overnight in Dien Bien Phu.
Day 7 DIEN BIEN PHU / HANOI (B)
Breakfast at the hotel and free time until your departure to the airport for your flight back to Hanoi.
